The Wicked 7 Lakes Route and Volcanic Adventures

Wicked travelers, grab your adventure gear! On this epic journey you will be traveling through a myriad of lakes and ancient forests, many of which are the home to the Araucaria, the country’s national tree. There are also plenty of great opportunities for rafting and other extreme sports.

In the Lake District, your mission is to visit three of the most famous volcanoes in Southern Chile: the Villarica, Lanin, and Osorno. In Pucón, test your wits, climb through the trails and stand at the mouth the live, smoking Villarica volcano. If you’re a really daring traveler, maybe you’d like to try your hand at exploring its bubbling lava rivers. For those who are not into such perilous undertakings, relax in the area’s steamy thermal baths with the ladies. Filled with clubs, Pucón is the place to party.

Later, lighten things up and take your camper to beautiful Bariloche. Drive through the Argentine/Chilean border and the 7 Lakes Route, and be swallowed up by countless rare Araucaria. Here some of the oldest specimens of the tree can be found. Arrive in Bariloche, where the architecture and sprawling landscapes have earned this place the title of the “Switzerland of South America.” Feel free to have a Swiss Miss or two and pretend you are there… hot chocolate is not just for kids.

Visit Lake Todos los Santos in Petrohué, and, if you need a second round of volcanic adventure, stop at the National Park Vicente Perez Rosales. There are also some great boat trips and amazing waterfalls to see here, so don’t miss out! As your trip comes to an end, do not forget to explore Puerto Varas or Puerto Montt, two southern Chilean cities.
